I would have to say that some of my strengths are good time management, communication, and able to adapt to different situations fairly quick. For my weaknesses I would say that team settings still make me nervous, because I would not want someone to get a lower grade from my work. I would also say a weakness I have is not fully understanding how healthcare works in an assisted living facility and why they do some things that seem unusual. Another weakness I have is that I do not like to fail, so when I do I get down on myself. I have been working on this and I still do it to myself, but I know it is okay to not get it right the first time. I have worked in healthcare for around 15 years and currently take care of my grandparents full time in their home, so I want to learn more of the behind the scenes of healthcare environment so I can fully understand why facilities have the regulations and rules they do. One of the resources I would use would be the center for writing excellence. I can write papers but sometimes I put to many thoughts into one paragraph so it becomes over whelming for the reader. Also I plan on taking the success workshop, so I can learn tips on how to keep school and my life going smooth. I look forward to learning from this class to help me continue to grow my knowledge of healthcare.


My professional and academic strengths are multi-tasking, being proactive, and being detail oriented. My job requires me to be able to manage 2-3 projects at a time, forecast scheduling and meeting deadlines without excuse. I have been able to effortlessly execute various tasks related to my job without fail as many people depend on me to perform my tasks effectively in order to complete their own.

My main weakness is my inability to effectively articulate in writing what’s on my mind without doubting myself. I want to be confident in my writing since I have not been in school for the past 11 years, and I have to learn how to write academic papers, which differ tremendously from the emails I have to write for my job. Another weakness of mine is working within a team. I often work on my own, so I am unaccustomed to handling most of my tasks within a collaborative framework.

I believe the university resources that will help me in my efforts to be a better writer is the center for writing excellence as well as the and center for collaboration, which I believe will help me to collaborate effectively with others within a team.

The Center for Collaboration will be most useful for me academically because the lessons learned will translate into my career as well. Learning how to effectively collaborate with others is very important as each individual can bring their talents and skill sets to the table. And collaborating with different people who possess a variety of skills and perspectives, all with common goals, will expedite the process of meeting said goals.
