Team-based healthcare involves the provision of health services to families or individuals by at least two healthcare practitioners. Health service providers work collaboratively to support the well-being of a patient (Ambrose-Miller & Ashcroft, 2016). Healthcare administrators can achieve better results and prevent adverse outcomes if they work with effective teams. The administrators should check various characteristics including knowledge of their roles and the tasks allocated to individual members of the team (Babiker et al., 2014). They should possess specialized skills to help them deal with overwhelming workload or emergency cases. The team should learn to work together through interdependency by allowing each member to bring their input. Administrators should focus on teams with an ability to adapt quickly (Flynn, Mathis, Jackson & Valentine, 2015). For example, a team should adapt quickly when it is assigned a new role in taking care of an elderly couple with diverse needs, which should be met satisfactorily. The ability to adapt will help them serve in any place without hindrances. The team is required to have clear goals and responsibilities and the strategy of executing the goals effectively.
The team should have effective communication to ensure every member remains updated on their task allocation. Health services require teams that care about each other (Ambrose-Miller & Ashcroft, 2016). When one of them is in trouble or wrong, the rest should strive to help overcome the situation. Additionally, they should learn to place the needs of the team ahead of their own. Effective teams understand the mission of their collaboration and prioritize on it. The team should provide opportunities for growth and improvement to the members (Flynn, Mathis, Jackson & Valentine, 2015). For example, cancer healthcare teams should enhance their skills on the discoveries made about cancer treatment. It is also important for the team to fit together by blending the strengths and weaknesses to develop synergy.
