The Little Rock Nine
Primary sources are the objects through which we can construct a narrative of African American history, life, and culture. In particular, the field of African American History is committed to interdisciplinary research that analyzes these primary sources by locating them within a complex web of social, historical, political, and economic contexts. Through this assignment, you will become an active researcher in the field of African American History, rather than simply a student of other scholars’ research. Your assignment must be five pages and include the websites where the documents are located. You can search for primary source documents at archives.gov; loc.gov, and libguides.lib.msu.edu/Africanamericans. Your paper must also include two secondary sources (books). Please use Chicago style in your paper. Research paper topics are due under Week 3 Lessons.
In this assignment, you will select primary documents and pose the following question:
How does my chosen document contribute to understanding the period in which the document was produced?
On your way to answering this question you might consider the following:

• How does your document reflect, intervene and/or comment upon its historical moment?
