Romeo and Juliet

Romeo and Juliet
Romeo and Juliet is perhaps the most famous and the oldest love story of all time. The story was written early in 1595 by author William Shakespeare. He employs various dramatic techniques with abrupt shifts from comedy to tragedy throughout the story, which has raised both critics and praises. Shakespeare creates a violent filled world when two young people from Verona fall in love. Romeo from the Montagues falls in love with Juliet from the Capulets, and the two families disapprove of this relationship, which ultimately creates a bitter feud between them.
In a death-filled setting, Shakespeare tells an intense love story, which is so strong with an illusion of its existence even after the death of the two lovers. The plot of the story is similar to that of the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe, who, despite disapproval from their families, decides to fall in love.
When the story begins, Romeo believes he is in love with Rosaline, a cousin of the Capulets. However, when Romeo and his friends disguise themselves and attend a masque ball at the Capulet’s house, he sees Juliet for the first time and immediately becomes infatuated with her. He sneaks into the garden and professes his love for Juliet, who stands on the balcony. These two young lovers go ahead and get married in secret with the help of Friar Lawrence.
And when Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, challenges Romeo with a fighting sword, he refuses because he secretly knows they are family. Mercutio, Romeo’s close friend, takes up Tybalt’s challenge, he loses the fight and dies. Romeos becomes very angry and kills Tybalt. Romeo is banished from Verona by the prince for breaking the law. All this time, the Capulets are unaware of the secret marriage and try to marry Juliet off to Spain, who is a cousin to the prince. Juliet and Lawrence devices a plan to avoid the marriage. She drinks a medicine that takes her into a coma for two days to fake her death.
Friar Lawrence delays sending a message to Romeo to come and rescue Juliet from the tomb, and the word of Juliet’s death reaches Romeo. Heartbroken Romeo decides to take his life beside Juliet, and when he races to the tomb, he finds Spain, kills him, and proceeds inside the tomb where he drinks his poison. When Juliet wakes up from the coma, she finds Romeos’ lifeless body and stabs herself with his sword.
Faced with the aftermath of the feud, the two families, the Montagues, and Capulets decides to end the dispute between them. This particular play becomes a quintessential story of love for multiple young generations. Shakespeare’s exquisite English language has also played a big part in the success his work.
