Federalist and Anti-Federalist
The views held by the federalist were better represented by the Federalist Party that was headed alexander Hamilton, George Adams and George Washington. Federalists preferred a powerful national government. The main purpose for a powerful national government according to this group was to give it adequate powers to foster robust economic growth and maintain close friendship with other countries the main one being Britain. Federalists were also preferred by bankers and businessmen because of formulating fiscally sound nationalistic policies. France that was seen as being very revolutionary at the time was not preferred by the movers of federalism. The Federalist Party gained and maintained power since the US independence till 1801 before the electorate shifted their preference to the Republican Party that was led by Thomas Jefferson.
Anti-federalists led by Patrick Henry were a group that stood opposed to the creation of a strong US central government. Anti-federalists supported the constitution that gave state governments more powers. The main reasons for antifederalist movement were to prevent the post of the US president from evolving to become a monarchy. Today, the views expressed by both the federalists and anti-federalists are represented in all spheres of the American politics and leadership, for instance many politicians including the president support the unification all states’ constitutions under the US constitution as seen in the passing of the act that forced all states to remove clauses that prohibited same sex marriages. Additionally, the Affordable Care Act of 2010 shows great interests to unify the healthcare in all states to make it safe and affordable. At the same time, citizens are concerned about the growing strength and the abilities of the central government. Some fear that it could become tyrannical if not properly checked. Some view the proposed strict gun laws as a way of taking power from people and ensuring that they can never revolt against the government. However, the federalists had and still have a better vision for the US as all state and the federal governments have experienced remarkable growth under federalism.
