Cross-Cultural Communication
The Intercultural Communication Program (30%)
An integral component of the course is interacting with individuals of differing cultural backgrounds in order to foster intercultural communication and understanding. The program runs throughout the semester.
Since we are observing social distancing during the class, you might connect via online or social media with a person from a different culture or a family member and conduct several interviews and talks with this person during the semester. The topic can be determined by you.
Journaling is recommended after you have interacted with your partners/ city planners/ persons you interviewed. Take time to write down impressions, observations, feelings, and insights you have gained.
Intercultural Insight Report: you are to note the particulars of your interactions plus highlights of observations. Pull this component of the course together with two to three single-spaced pages of insight gained through the interpersonal intercultural interactions. You need to make connections between your academic and experiential learning. (If you have more relevant thoughts, I invite you to add a typed page of insights.) I welcome pictures as well.
