CRJ 142 – Final Project
Goal: Demonstrate a practical application of major points (knowledge) from the textbook, lectures and course concepts while evaluating a real-life homicide case.
• You can select any real-life crime file as long as there is enough information available to verify the actual event(s) and complete the requirements.
• Places to consider getting a case file are Netflix, HBO, Forensic Files, Crime 360.
The assignment has three parts.
1. First identify a homicide case for your profile and enter the name of the case in the discussion post. Once entered no one else can choose that case.
2. Second, conduct research into your case with a focus on the presentation categories.
3. Third submit both a video presentation of your reinvestigation (approx.. 10 minutes) using the video dropbox and submit of your research notes and sources used in the assignment dropbox.
It may help to approach this assignment with a “comparison” mentality….on one side would be the perfect world / classroom instruction side and how things are supposed to happen (legally and morally) and on the other side what actually happened during the investigation. You are responsible for demonstrating an understanding of all the investigative concepts discussed and presented throughout the year

1. Present an overview (the whole case in brief) of the case facts
2. Discuss the category, type and value of the critical pieces of evidence
3. What evidence was processed in the lab and how did the results impact the trial.
4. If an interrogation took place of the suspect (or any key witness) analyze that process….were the police effective in their interrogation process?
5. Identify any legal issues (Search warrants, Eye witness ID….etc) that may impact the due process of this investigation.
6. Summarize the trial process (Opening, Case Facts, Defense, and Closing ( Includes – Get research paper samples and course-specific study resources under homework for you course hero writing service – witness testimony and expert witnesses). Explain what witness(es) had the most impact.
7. Write a page paper – Describe any errors in the case (Police, Lab, District Attorney, Defense Attorney). Discuss why you feel these were errors and what impact they may have had.
8. Additional information relevant to this investigation (maybe what did not get used in court or impeached witnesses or research / legal precedent that could have been used).
9. Results of the criminal case….How long did the jury deliberate, what did the jurors have to say in post-trial interviews….what was the verdict.
10. Your final opinion (This is a summary reflection and evaluation, based on the totality of your reinvestigation on the case as a whole. Was the case strong, was the correct verdict reached, what problems did you see, what was not addressed, any legal issues you disagreed with and why….etc)
11. How did the actual investigation compare to the course content of CRJ 142?
