Lars claims that changing to a disorganized organization will make the company competitive among other competitors in the technology market. In his opinion, changing from the technology-based manufacturing into the knowledge-based company will help them to be successful. This idea might have been clever and innovative for the company to appear different than their competitors. However, there are some weaknesses to his idea such as the employees need to be consented and the changing in the organization pattern will consume more time than expected.
Firstly, Lars thinks that transformation of the organizational structure would give better opportunities for workers to be more innovative, but this is a wrong approach because he does not include the managers and employees in the decision-making process. The workers will assure that they also need to be involved in process therefore they need to give some suggestions on how to be a better company in the future. It is true that Lars is the CEO and therefore he has the right to make decision about his company. However, if employees are not involved in the decision process, then they might leave their jobs and apply to work in other places. It is crucial to the CEO of a company to take risks in making decisions, but it would have been better if the employees are included so they can give more ideas on how the company can have a better future.
Secondly, structural changes in the company might happen rapidly but it will take a longer time for the employees to adapt to the change. It is an easy process to change the structure of an organization, but it takes time to break an old habit of working. They have adjusted to the traditional way of thinking and working, therefore it will take more time changing the habits. However, many people say that structural changes are crucial in order for innovation to take place. Employees will learn new ways of working, learn to be more creative, and acquire new skills. Unfortunately, the time it takes to learn and create something new will mean employees are not making any progress quickly enough. The way Lars is planning it now will not be enough to innovate and stay competitive. The company will need more time in training and coaching their employees to adapt to the new way of working and this, along with understanding the new structural changes, will take a lot of time.
