Assignment:
looks at a real world example of financial statements filed by companies with
SEC.
For students with first names starting
from I-R => use AAPL
Based
on your first name I-R, find the balance sheet and notes to the financial
statements in the most recent FORM 10-K for your publicly traded company. The
Form 10-K can be located by going to the home page of the Securities and
Exchange Commission (.sec.gov/”>www.sec.gov). Then under âFilingsâ, select âCompany
Filings Searchâ and then under âFast Searchâ,
enter the Ticker Symbol of your company. Get the
most recent Form 10-K filed by clicking on
âInteractive Dataâ.
Answer
the following questions (you must also post the link to your company files
along with your answers in the Assignment Dropbox):
1. Balance
Sheet:
a. What
current assets are included in the balance sheet?
b. What
current liabilities are included in the balance sheet?
c. Does
the company have long-term debt? How much?
d. What
is the book value of equity?
2. Accounting
Policies:
a. What
method does the company use to value inventory?
b. What
depreciation method does the company use?
3. Market
Value of Equity:
a. What
is the market value of equity? Market Value of Equity = shares outstanding
times share price. You can get this information from finance.yahoo.com website.
Enter your company ticker symbol in the
Quote Lookup Box. For share price, use the âPrev Closeâ number and also state
the date on which you obtained this data.
b. What
is more relevant in decision making: book value or market value? Why?
